Stories that Work

with Michael Harvey

To really nail that presentation you need someone to show you how storytelling tools actually work. Then you can embody your own authentic and dynamic style and talk with integrity and conviction. Welcome on board!

About me...

I have told stories professionally all over the world for the last twenty-five years, won awards for my work, collaborated with leading cultural institutions and production companies and led storytelling for business training for the last fifteen years. My clients have included Biomet Merck, the Saïd Business School at Oxford University, Arts & Business, the London School of Economics, the NHS and Exeter Leadership Consulting. I am an associate of Narrative Leadership Associates.“Michael’s coaching sessions are the storytelling equivalent of Jedi training.”
— Daniel Allison, storyteller and author

What I do...

I can help you get beyond the ‘everyone has a story’ approach to an authentic, dynamic and practical understanding of how story actually works. We'll get under the bonnet of storytelling, take the bits apart and when we put it all back together your stories and style will be unique, authentic and compelling.I specialise in the nitty-gritty of storytelling and my coaching is tailored to you and your team's specific needs and style."I have worked with Michael Harvey on numerous occasions and he is a true master in his field. I have no hesitation in highly recommending his services. Your life will never be the same. In an extremely good way of course."
Andy Coppin, Public Speaking Trainer / Applied Storytelling at Work / Ex-JPMorgan

I help individuals and teams find their story and tell it with authenticity and conviction so you can make the change you want to see happen. The central insight of my approach is that storytelling skills are not an 'add-on' because you already have all the skills you need, hidden in plain sight in your social storytelling.Any form of speaking that is imposed on you from outside and not properly integrated will come over as fake (because it is!)Using your own innate storytelling skills is the only way to an authentic and convincing dialogue with your audience. I can help you do that.“This team has been together for 2/3 years (some a lot longer) and this must have been the first day we actually got together and COMMUNICATED…The more we talk about the training day, and what we have done, the more we realise how much we’ve learnt…We have been involved in an important project recently, the deadline for which was last week. I really believe that the training day helped us meet that deadline”

"Michael is my 'go to' storytelling coach. His approach is both practical and profound, helping me grasp the essence of a story as well as navigate the complexities of its performance. As an occasional colleague on corporate assignments, I have always found him to be competent, collaborative, and hugely creative." Geoff Mead, PhD, Associate Professor of Narrative Leadership, Hult International Business School“Michael has an easy and encouraging manner which makes it easy to try things out - but his style is informed by a depth of knowledge and skill. I have benefitted so much from these sessions.”
Dr. Steve Killick, storyteller and psychologist
“One of the most radical and relevant pieces of training I’ve ever been on as a storyteller.”
Tim Ralphs, storyteller

About you...

The prospect of standing up in front a bunch of your peers or people you've never seen before and behave like you know what you're talking about is scary. It's meant to be scary and that's actually a good thing. The really interesting question is "What are you going to do with all that nervous energy?"You could just blag or bluff your way through and pop in an anecdote to show your humanity. Or you could spend some time really working on your storytelling chops with me, deepening your relationship with your message, why it matters, and what you expect others to do about it.The room you tell in is swirling with hopes, fears, preconceptions and suppositions. Your job is to be a lightning rod that harnesses that energy and does something worthwhile with it. If you want to find out how to do it give me a call or send me an email

"Working with Michael has been a really valuable and enjoyable process. It's been particularly helpful to reflect on my motivations and explore the areas where storytelling can be most useful before diving into the process of building out stories and practicing techniques.Michael's feedback is specific and astute and I felt like I made considerable progress across the sessions. I now feel well equipped to weave storytelling into my presentations as well as how to use it to emphasise both my organisation's values (and my own!)" Daniel Keller - CEO Unifrog
